Gotherington

Post-game refreshments at The Plough Inn

Gotherington made steady progress to 211 with Bayshill bowlers trying to contain the score. Prisloe made a great century before retiring. Sharp reached 57, falling to Colin Harding, bowled. Chris Horner ran out Coyle for 32. Alex Harding bowled 5 overs for just 20, being the 2nd most economical bowler on the day. Tom Liley bowled 4 for 12, but had to leave the field with a hamstring problem. Nobby Pierce and Harding C taking the only wickets, with one apiece.

The Bayshill innings began well enough, but lacked any runs to speak of. The first six overs yielded just the four runs. Only Pierce (36) broke the 20 barrier with a scoring rate of more than a run a ball. When he fell, the score had climbed to 90 in the 24th over. Bayshill then amassed a further 24 runs in the final 13 overs of the innings, losing their remaining 6 wickets.

Extra report by Georges Seurat:

On this glorious day, a prestigious Bayshill record fell and looks to have been put to bed for the foreseeable future.

To put the record into its rightful context, the record had been equalled 3 weeks ago by Dom Hill (17) (jointly held with Paul Saunders & Aron Bachelor), it was smashed last week by Sean Price (24), but this week Steve Liley acupunctured his way into the BHF (Bayshill Hall of Fame), with a sumptuous 34, with the only tarnish being a chipped 2 over square leg to end the fun.

The needle-like precision of this tattooist’s dream of an innings should be compared with the efforts of the other Bays’ players of the day. Horner managed 9 consecutive dots, Pritchard a worthy 15, Morris 9 and C Harding 11.
With the record ensured and the scorebook with an elongated dotted equals sign next his name, presumably to indicate the soporific nature of his achievement, Liley acknowledged the wild uncontrollable cheering of his team-mates, most gaping in wonderment at the unfolding spectacle. You can paint a picture with a hundred words, but an innings can surely only be painted with serious dottage.

This extra report by Georges Seurat was sponsored by the Bays’ Virtual Pipe Smokers’ Club, who wish to acknowledge Georges’ remarkable efforts to help out here. Georges has been quite unwell recently (in fact he’s been dead for 120 years) so his enthusiasm to help out is quite extraordinary. Georges has been ‘well-hung’ in the National Gallery for more years than he can remember.
