Match report by Col Mustard:
In a tense 35 over encounter between Charlton Kings and Bayshill, the home side squeaked home.
Charlton Kings won the toss and elected to bat on a wonderful sun-bathed spring Sunday. The artificial wicket provided a batting surface that helped the wielders of the willow slightly more than the launchers of leather.
In a match where 50 runs or 50 dot balls ensured a retirement, the scorebook duly became a complex puzzle. Griffiths D retired on 48, G Parsley also made 48 but fell to a catch on the boundary by Alex Van Dyke. B Pearson and P Ferguson saw Charlton Kings’ innings out, unbeaten on 30 and 35 respectively. R Macleod and C Horner both taking catches with the latter snaffling up a skier at long on. The two bowlers standing out being M Harding taking one for 19 off seven and T Liley taking a brace for just 14 off seven. CK made 214.
In reply, Bayshill raced to 85 off the first 11 overs, with Horner and Pritchard (24) enjoying the wicket and the bowling. Horner being the first of three Bayshill batters to retire, having passed 50, Pierce and Liley T being the others. Horner hit 8 fours and two sixes, Pierce six and one, whilst Liley 8 and one respectively.
With the game seemingly in the bag, Bayshill somehow managed to snatch a lose from the jaws of victory. With just two wickets down and the score on 195 for 2, Bayshill lost their way. Charlton King’s use of their best bowlers at the death proved very effective.
Two run outs and then too many dot balls saw the innings fall 3 short of the winning line. Those implicated will remain anonymous, mainly due to the fact that this report was written by a nameless person involved in both run outs. ?
