Bayshill registered another lose today, in an out of county experience against Droitwich Spa. Not as surreal as astral projection, but certainly unlooked for.
In cool and over clouded conditions, Droitwich made 223 off 40 overs. A Shaw made a century before retiring, with Goss making 23 and A Singh 37 respectively. Stirrup took a sharp stumping, along with catches by Steve Pritchard, Chris Horner and Tom Liley. (Tom’s catch being compared by website supremo Martin Van Dyke, as akin to pouching a two minute soft boiled egg in the deep.)
Mike Harding was again the pick of the bowlers, with 2 for 40 off 7. In reply, Adrian Pierce held the Bayshill shooting party together, with a knock of 53 off 93, including five fours. Only Fran Stirrup managed to pass 20, with just one more.
With the result ensured, Droitwich surprisingly introduced a fast bowler to attack the lower order, with short pitched deliveries in poor light. One Bayshill player was unfortunately hit at the end of the 37th over, with 61 still needed. The question which needs posing is simply, ‘Why?’
